Chinese Garden

If you are interested in classical northern Chinese imperial architectural style and landscapes ‘Chinese Garden’ is the place for you. Located in the western region of Singapore, the garden is just a 5-minute walk from the Chinese Garden MRT Station (EW Line).

The 13.5 ha garden was designed by Prof Yuen-chen Yu, a well-known architect from Taiwan in 1975 with the view of introducing greenery to complement the industrial landscape of Jurong area. The thematic architectural elements and unique landscaped grounds rich with clusters of bamboo and willow, ficus trees and lotus ponds of the Garden provide a peaceful green oasis for the visitors.

Over the years, the Garden has transformed into a popular attraction for both local and foreign visitors to Singapore and also serves as an ideal location for wedding photographers.

The main features of the garden include the Marble Stone Lions, the 13-Arch Rainbow Bridge, the Main Arch Building, the Stone Boat and Tea House, the Garden of Abundance, the Bonsai Garden, the Live Turtle & Tortoise Museum, a 7-storey pagoda and four Chinese pavilions.

However, the Bonsai Garden and the Live Turtle & Tortoise Museum tend to stand out from all these due to the uniqueness of them. The Suzhou-style Bonsai Garden with an area of 5,800 sq m, houses over 2,000 bonsais imported from China and other parts of Asia. The two trees outside the Garden's entrance are said to come from Sichuan and to be over 280 years old.

Also The Chinese Garden is noted for its Chinese New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations, where you get to witness the decorations of beautiful lanterns brought in from different parts of China and cultural performances by Chinese cultural troupes.
